Kaitlin was born at 25 weeks gest and spent 6 months, alone in an incubator and then crib, in high intensive care, before they sent her home with us...basically to die or live as a "vegetable". Not my words. And only something I know as hindsight. They said she would be fine, no promises. They didn't have a crystal ball. That was 2006. You can see about my amazing girls first two years at the link to www.ourkoolkid@blogspot.com. Kaitlin lapsed into a coma this time last year. I stopped blogging then. We were told to get the family together and not revive as she was completely screwed brainwise. Her dads and my marriage had collapsed by then. I was devestaed and it has been a rough year. But my wee girl pulled thru, and nothing I have experienced has come close to the resilience and recovery she underwent, even though we accepted she would die. She didn't. And I don't want to stop telling her story cos she amazes me every day. The last blog finished Oct 2008. I would like to share our new life and recovery from these trials. Me and my girl. But most importantly, Kaitlin and her strength, inspiration, resilience, and wackiness. A great kid. Who is my whole world. And if you are reading this, don't let anyone tell you what your children will or will not do....and sometimes, societies ideas of success, achievement and love, are very one dimensional and not really real. Welcome to the little world of a truly amazing wee girl. Thank you for visiting.......

BIG GIRL SITTING

At the age of three, Kaitlin is developing some control over her head and neck at long last!!!  (I remember when my goal for head control for her was 6mnths, then 12, then 18.....you get the picture!)  A few things seem to be coming together at the moment, she is having a growth and development spurt, SO COOL!!!

These photos are very special because Kaitlin is sitting, quite well for seconds at a time, she is wearing her glasses happily and her eyes are beautifully straight, she is showing interest in gifts being given to her for the first Christmas ever, and she is happy with all of this.  I am a very proud mum.  GO KAITLIN YAYYYYYY!!!  I just know this will be a good year for her.  (yep, I just touched wood heehee)

DRESS UPS

Dressing up in costume for mum's 50th was so much fun and a welcome break from hospital, a few months ago!!  Kaitlin was absolutely adorable and enjoyed being smoochy-oochied by the whole extended family, she was so good!  This is how the Kaitlin-bug nickname came about and kinda stuck heehee :-)

SUMMER SWIMMING FUN

With the warmer days here, Kaitlin Has been spending some time in the pool, which she loves as long as it is her splashing other people and not the other way around!!!  She goes with her carer Bennie, and her young friends Maya and Marice.  She just loves to eat chocolate chunk muffins from the pool cafe after all that exercise!

SLAVA SNOW SHOW

We took Kaitlin to the Slava Snow Show earlier this year.  It was an incredible Russian Clown mime/comedy and musical.  It was fully interactive, snow blew into the audience, fantastic sets and lighting effects, lots of random surprises, laughs, and Kaitlin got to meet the clowns afterwards.  It was a bit of a worry in the first half because she got upset and seemed freaked out.  I had one of my boo-hoo why can't we take her anywhere moments, during intermission and we debated whether or not to go back in.  A lovely usher let us move up the back and it seemed Kaitlin could see better from there cos from then on she was thrilled by it all.  At the  end she went up the front and when massive massive swiss balls were passed around the audience and floating thru the air she squirmed and chuckled with delight!!
